A micro resort in Fort Worth has gathered a lot of attention since opening this summer thanks to clever, and stylish, use of shipping containers.

Hotel Otto is the first shipping container hotel in Fort Worth and is the brainchild of celebrity chef Tim Love, whose Italian restaurant sits next to the resort, and located in the River District in west Fort Worth.

I’ve always wanted to own a hotel, I don’t know why,” Love told NBCDFW. “I guess because I’m crazy.”

Love is well known in Fort Worth, Texas and beyond — he’s been a contestant on the Iron Chef — and owns numerous other restaurants, including Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, Woodshed Smokehouse, Queenie’s Steakhouse, Atico and Love Shack.

He’s also a de facto ambassador for Texas.

The hotel has eight bungalows that are crafted from shipping containers — the word otto means eight in Italian — and even has a ninth room that’s available to guests, PaperCity Fort Worth reported.

“I like the fact that is a palindrome,” Love said to PaperCity Fort Worth of regarding the name. “It seemed fitting since my girls are twins ― a mirror of one another.”

Otto’s grounds include a full-service plunge pool with cabanas and chaise lounges, a Bocce Ball court, and 10,000 square feet of gardens that provide greens to the restaurant, Gemelle, which means “twins” in Italian — a tribute to his daughters.

“I want people to really enjoy being outside, sit by the pool, sip on an Aperol spritz, really take it all in, because it’s just nothing like it in the country, much less in Fort Worth,” Love said to NBCDFW. “It’s a great little addition to our city, and I hope everyone else feels the same way.”

The rooms are cozy and quaint and beg you to take a nap or read a book — or both.

The bungalows at the resort are 160 square feet and “curated with an extensive array of thoughtful luxuries including a queen-sized bed, custom walk-in shower, Hermes bath amenities, a full in-room bar, in-room coffee from Illycaffe, a refrigerator, and a rooftop deck with unobstructed views of the Trinity River,” the hotel’s website describes.

Each room’s rooftop includes a wood-burning fire pit and if desired, a fully stocked Yedi cooler.

Love has a deep fondness for the river, according to Papercity.

“Everything I own is on the river,” he said to Papercity. “I think it needs to be treated with respect. It’s our biggest amenity.”

Hotel Otto is currently taking reservations.
