Kids could get trapped inside wooden playsets — so thousands now recalled, officials say
Thousands of backyard playsets have been recalled over fears children could get trapped inside, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
Several kinds of wooden playsets have been recalled after officials said they learned parts used to reinforce decoration on the wood of the sets poses a threat to kids.
“Children can become trapped in the gap between the lower part of the roof structure and the bottom of the gable decoration,” officials said in a Nov. 4 recall notice.
At least 5,100 recalled playsets were sold in the U.S., with 200 more sold in Canada, according to the commission.
The recall includes the Turbo Racer, Cloud Racer, Captain’s Fort and Fort Highlander outdoor playsets. They were sold under the brand names Yardline Play Systems and Gorilla Playsets.
The playsets were sold on Costco’s website from March 2019 until May 2021 and Lowe’s website from December 2020 through May 2021. They were sold for about $1,000, officials said.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled playsets and contact Backyard Play Systems for a free repair kit which includes replacement wood parts, hardware and instructions,” officials said. “If a consumer is unable or does not want to do the repair themselves, Backyard will send a representative to perform the repair for them at no charge.”
