Dad fatally shot through windshield as daughters were inside van, Pennsylvania cops say
Fourteen shots were fired through a minivan’s windshield, fatally striking a father as two of his daughters were inside, officials told Pennsylvania media outlets.
“Miraculously, the two teenage daughters were not struck by gunfire. They were not injured at all,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
A third daughter, standing outside the van at the time of the shooting, was also not hurt, WTXF reported. But their dad, 42-year-old Raymond Lighty, was shot about 10 times, taking bullets in his head, chest and torso.
Lighty was shot in Philadelphia’s Queen Village neighborhood shortly before 6 p.m. on Nov. 1, WPVI reported, where he was found behind the steering wheel. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooter got away, KYW reported, and the motive is unknown as the fatal shooting remains under investigation.
Small said the girls live near the location of the shooting, and their dad was either picking the girls up from home or dropping them off, the Inquirer reported.
Officers found a spent shell casing on top of the van, WPVI reported, leading police to believe the shooter was close to the minivan before fleeing.
