5-year-old boy dies at wedding reception when table falls on him, Illinois police say

A 5-year-old died at a wedding when a table fell on him, Illinois police say.

The boy and his family were attending a wedding reception Friday at the Drake Hotel in Oak Brook in suburban Chicago, according to a news release. He was lying on a sofa table with a granite top in an area where children were sitting.

When the other children got up to leave, the boy started sliding off the table and held the edge with his fingers, surveillance video shows. As he got off the table, it toppled over and hit his head.

An emergency room doctor at the wedding performed CPR on the boy before he was taken by paramedics to a hospital, police say. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The boy was from Glenview. His identity was not released by police.
