Photos show damage from Hurricane Laura along Gulf Coast

Hurricane Laura came ashore in the early hours of Thursday morning as a Category 4 storm. Officials at the National Hurricane Center say the hurricane packed 150 mph winds when it made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana, 30 miles east of the Texas border.

Meteorologist said the hurricane remained at a Category 2 level six hours after making landfall maintaining 100 mph winds as it moved north.

When the sun rose, the scope of the devastation became apparent to the few people who remained in the area. Here are some photos of that destruction.
