‘Save the Potatoes!’ Taco Bell purges some menu items and people can’t handle it

Taco Bell’s menu is getting a makeover and not everyone is happy about it.

The fast-food chain, known for its classic soft taco, is “simplifying” its menu to help streamline operations, according to a statement posted to its website.

“This evolved menu approach comes after months of analyzing the new way we are running our restaurants,” the company said. “And while change is hard, a simplified menu and innovation process will leave room for new fan favorites, continued progress in categories such as plant-based diets, and even opportunities for the return of some classics on a limited time basis.”

Starting Aug. 13, certain items will no longer be available including the grilled steak soft taco, spicy potato soft taco, nachos supreme, the mini skillet breakfast bowl and others.

The restaurant will also say goodbye to the popular Quesarito, but said the item will still be available for purchase via the Taco Bell app.

“We encourage fans to snag the following menu items over the next few weeks before discovering new favorites,” the company said in a statement.

News of the change wasn’t welcomed by fans, who were especially sad to see the cheesy fiesta potatoes go. Many took to social media to sound off on the menu makeover.

“@tacobell Please do not remove potatoes from your menu,” one Twitter user wrote. “Don’t make this year any worse. #SaveThePotatoes

“TACO BELL IS REMOVING FIESTA POTATOES FROM THE MENU, 2020 LITERALLY CANT GET ANY WORSE OH MY GOD,” another agreed.

“I think @tacobell removing potatoes from their menu is alienating vegans and vegetarians who add this item as a delicious meat free option,” another fan chimed in. “I guess no more Taco Bell for us. I hate 2020.”

Though Taco Bell is bidding adieu to a few classics, the restaurant gave fans a peek at its future menu. The new items include a $5 Grande Nachos Box and a $1 beef burrito, according to its website.

Customers will still be able to customize orders to fit their dietary preferences/needs.

“As we move forward, we will continue to lean into learnings from our restaurants to strive for a Taco Bell experience that is safe, fast, and efficient for all,” the company concluded.
