Target adding fresh grocery items to curbside pickup nationwide. Here’s what to know

Staying out of grocery stores due to the coronavirus pandemic? Shopping for groceries is about to get easier.

Target announced Thursday that it is adding fresh grocery and freezer items to its curbside pickup service nationwide.

“The speed and convenience of our fulfillment options are unmatched across the country, and they’ve become even more critical for our guests searching for easy and safe ways to shop during the pandemic,” chief operating officer John Mulligan said in a news release.

Soon, you’ll be able to have more than 750 items including produce, dairy, bakery, meat and frozen products brought to your car, the company said. Target’s Drive Up service is completely contactless.

The assortment will also be available for in-store pickup, Target said. Both its curbside and in-store pickup options are free, with no minimum order requirement.

The expanded service will be rolled out in the Midwest first, hitting 400 stores by the end of June, Target said, expanding to 1,500 stores by the holiday season, according to the company.

Target previously tested the expanded curbside offerings at stores in Kansas City and Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

“During a time when even more people are looking for different ways to get the items they need, we’ll continue to invest in making Target the easiest and safest place to shop,” Mulligan said in the release.

Earlier this month, Sam’s Club announced it would be launching curbside pickup nationwide, with all of the company’s 597 stores expected to offer the service by the end of June.
