Two sisters using hammock die after a pillar collapses on them, Ohio officials say
Two girls died in a hammock accident after a brick pillar collapsed on them, Ohio police say.
Cleveland Heights police found the girls trapped under bricks Sunday night, WOIO reported. It appeared they had tied the hammock to a tree and a pillar made of brick, according to the news outlet.
The brick pillar fell on both of the children, a city spokesperson told WKYC. The girls were rushed to a hospital where they died from injuries, the news outlet reported.
The Cuyahoga County medical examiner said the girls were 12 and 14, WJW reported.
They were identified as Scout Scaravalli, 14, and Chasey Scaravalli, 12, and the accident happened at their home, Cleveland.com reported.
Hathaway Brown School told WJW the girls were sisters who were going to be in the seventh and 9th grade this fall.
“The entire HB community is saddened by the loss of the Scaravilli sisters; they will be greatly missed by so many friends, classmates, and teachers,” Head of School Fran Bisselle told Cleveland.com in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are dedicated to their family.”
