Girl Scout helps nab crook after noticing funny $20 used to buy cookies, Oregon cops say

A “fidgety” man who bought a $5 box of Tagalongs with a $20 bill at a Girl Scout cookie stand in Oregon aroused a 13-year-old girl’s suspicions, The Oregonian reports.

“I don’t think this money is real,” Ava Brown told her mother after the man left a cookie stand outside a Salem Walmart earlier in February, according to the publication.

“The bill didn’t look right, it was smaller, bluish tint and it just wasn’t the same as the rest of the bills,” Ava said, KPTV reported.

A second Girl Scout troop selling cookies in the community also reported receiving fake bills in mid-February, The Statesman Journal reported.

Alerted by the Girl Scouts, police examined security video from the Walmart, KGW reported. On Sunday, officers arrested the accused counterfeiter when he returned to the store, police say.

Camden Ducharme, 36, faces charges including forgery and theft, The Statesman Journal reported. He’s being held in the Marion County Correctional Facility.

“It’s not nice, it is not kind to other people and it is not fair,” Ava Brown said, KPTV reported. “Us Girl Scouts work really hard and I am proud to say I am a Girl Scout.”
