‘Trooper of the Year’ caught producing and sharing child porn, Louisiana police say

A Louisiana State Police trooper has been arrested on a child pornography charge, authorities say.

Just two years ago, he was named the “Trooper of the Year.”

Trooper Jason Boyet, 41, was charged Wednesday with production and distribution of pornography involving juveniles, according to a news release. He was taken into custody after an investigation by the FBI and Louisiana State Police special victim’s unit, officials said.

The case began with special agents investigating a person producing and sharing child pornography with an app, police said. Boyet was later identified as the online user, and he was arrested after an interview, police said.

In 2018, Louisiana State Police named Boyet its “Trooper of the Year” for efforts in seizing 7,800 grams of heroin worth nearly an estimated $2 million, according to a Facebook post. He also assisted in seizing 15,000 tablets of Oxycodone worth an estimated $300,000, officials said.

He has over 20 years in law enforcement experience, including employment at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol, officials said.

The child pornography investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible, police said.

Boyet was booked into Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
