Breakfast isn’t safe from chicken sandwich wars as McDonald’s unveils new menu items
For the morning when all you want is a fried chicken sandwich, McDonald’s has you covered.
The fast food chain rolled out two new breakfast chicken sandwiches nationwide on Tuesday, the company announced.
Previously only available in the southern U.S., the Chicken McGriddle and McChicken Biscuit sandwiches have been added to McDonald’s breakfast menu across the entire nation, according to a news release.
The sandwiches are available seven days a week for a limited time, the release says.
So what, exactly, are they?
The Chicken McGriddle is a fried chicken patty sandwiched between two griddle cakes “with the sweet taste of maple,” McDonald’s says.
The McChicken Biscuit is just that — a fried chicken patty between a biscuit.
Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA, posted a photo of himself to Twitter on Tuesday chowing down on a new Chicken McGriddle.
“Who needs #chickenandwaffles when you can have a Chicken McGriddle?” he wrote.
McDonald’s says the additions are an effort to give customers what they want: more breakfast and more chicken, according to the release.
“Our owner operators are looking forward to introducing new chicken offerings to the menu,” Linda VanGosen, vice president of menu innovation, wrote in a statement to CNN Business. “They have seen firsthand the demand for more chicken offerings and more breakfast offerings, and we’re able to satisfy both of these cravings with Chicken McGriddles and McChicken Biscuits.”
Breakfast fans took to Twitter to express their excitement — and confusion — over the new sandwiches.
