Father sacrifices his life to save daughter from hit-and-run driver, Arizona cops say
Police say they’re looking for a hit-and-run driver after a father of four died saving his daughter.
Carlos Chavez Aguirre, 39, was hit crossing the street on Jan. 11, according to ABC 10. He was walking with his 17-year-old daughter and pushed her out of the way of the car. She’s recovering “from a possible collarbone fracture.”
Aguirre was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to AZ Central.
”He’s got quick reactions and he saw it coming, he took the hit and maybe if he didn’t push his daughter I don’t know what the story would’ve been,” Claudia Chavez, the oldest daughter of the family, told ABC 10.
Police said that the driver of the car couldn’t be identified because the windows were tinted, AZ Central reported. They described the vehicle as a dark brown pickup truck.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover Chavez’s funeral expenses and medical costs.
“His children adored him and he was loved by his family,” the description read. “He was a hard working father. With their father gone the oldest has stepped up in taking care of the children but with the help of the entire family. Medical expenses and funeral costs will be a burden for the family but we as a family will greatly appreciate any and all help received.”
The Glendale Police Department posted a tweet on its official Twitter page, asking anyone with more information about the driver to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for a “potential reward.”
