8-year-old shot by ‘powerful’ pellet gun dies, and teen girl charged, Texas cops say
An 8-year-old Texas boy shot with a “significantly powerful” pellet gun has died, police say.
A teenage girl is in custody.
Logan Blackwell, a third-grade student in Mount Pleasant, was shot with an air rifle at a home on Dec. 29, officials say.
Logan later died of the injuries from the shooting after he was rushed to a hospital, according to the Titus County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, a 16-year-old girl was charged with felon
y manslaughter, police said. She wasn’t identified.
Mount Pleasant school district officials mourned the death of Logan, who was a student at Corprew Elementary School in the town about 160 miles east of Fort Worth.
“(The district) is saddened to lose one of our youngest Tigers,” school officials wrote on Facebook.
The sheriff’s office offered condolences to Logan’s family.
“Titus County Sheriff Tim Ingram and all of his staff would like to publicly extend our condolences to Logan’s family,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook. “They will remain in our thoughts and prayers for days to come.”
