Red Hot Chili Peppers are changing up the band. John Frusciante is back — again
The Red Hot Chili Peppers just announced a new-old musician will be joining the band: former Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante.
The RHCP shared the change-up in an Instagram post on Sunday, along with the news that current guitarist Josh Klinghoffer would be leaving the group.
“Josh is a beautiful musician that we respect and love,” the post said. “We are deeply grateful for our time with him, and the countless gifts he shared with us. We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.”
This will be the second time Frusciante has rejoined Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Frusciante first joined the band in 1988 before leaving to battle a heroin addiction while touring to promote the iconic 1991 album “Blood Sugar Sex Magik,” Blabbermouth reported.
He rejoined the band six years later and played on “Californication,” “By the Way” and “Stadium Arcadium,” Rolling Stone reported. He left the Chili Peppers, again, in 2009 and was replaced by Klinghoffer.
So far, Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced two U.S. tour dates for 2020 in Gulf Shores, Ala., on May 15 and Boston, Mass., on May 24, the band’s website says.
