Video shows driver dump dying man off hood after ‘gruesome’ hit-and-run, L.A. cops say

A “gruesome” video released Wednesday shows a driver slam on the brakes to jar a man loose from the hood of a Ford Fusion after carrying him 150 feet, Los Angeles police say.

The dying 47-year-old, later identified as Rufino Miranda, rolls off the black car into the street, the video shows. The driver backs up, then pulls around his crumpled body to flee.

The fatal hit-and-run took place at 9:20 p.m. Dec. 4 at Avalon Boulevard and 81st Street in the Florence neighborhood of south Los Angeles, police wrote in a press release.

A reward of up to $50,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the Ford Fusion driver, police wrote.

The driver hit Miranda as he crossed the street, according to police.

“The force of the impact caused him to become lodged on top of the suspect’s vehicle’s hood and windshield area,” police wrote in the release.

The driver continued 150 feet down Avalon Boulevard before hitting the brakes to free Miranda from the Fusion’s front end, dumping him to the pavement, the release says.

Police asked that anyone with information on the crime call South Traffic Division detectives at (213) 842-3917 or (323) 421-2500. Anonymous tips can be made to 800-222-8477 or www.lacrimestoppers.org.
