Which sweet reigns supreme? Find out the most popular Christmas candy in your state

Egg nog or hot chocolate? Real tree or fake? Presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas day?

Allegiances run deep this time of year, and as holiday revelers let their sweet tooth off its leash, they’re also making known their favorite Christmas confections.

After assessing more than 32,000 votes, bulk retailer CandyStore.com, released its list of the most popular Christmas candies in each state.

Most popular

No surprise here: Reese’s Cups Minis were voted the best holiday candy by 12 states scattered all across the country. Texas, California, Illinois, Washington, Maryland, Pennsylvania... people everywhere seem to love the tried and true bite-sized chocolate, the report says.

Following close behind was Reindeer Corn — the holiday version of candy corn — which was most popular in eight states most of which are along the eastern seaboard. Rhode Island, Connecticut, Virginia and Georgia all love the festive confection along with Michigan, the sole Midwestern Reindeer Corn devotee.

Peppermint bark snagged the top spot in eight states, including Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Iowa, the report says.

Holiday-themed

Other holiday-inspired candies fared fairly well in the results, with the peppermint candy cane ranking most popular in six states — but second-most popular in 15. The part-time ornament also nabbed the #11 spot on CandyStore.com’s definitive list of worst Christmas candies.

The worst-worst? Christmas nougat, according to the report.

Chocolate Santas got some love from South Dakota and Wyoming who both prefer the foil-wrapped chocolate to any other holiday candy, the report says. It ranked third in Maine, Idaho and South Dakota.

Fun fact: 150 million chocolate Santas will be produced this year, according to the report.

The bizarre

Everyday candies like M&Ms, Hershey’s Kisses and Snickers all took top spots in a few states, but there’s one candy that seems a little out of place: Pez.

The nostalgic fruity confection is the most popular holiday candy in New Mexico and Louisiana, the report says, and ranked second in Ohio and West Virginia.

Now what?

According to the report, you’re pretty likely to give candy as a gift this year; 93 percent of people will gift chocolate or candy at some point during the holiday season.

So as you’re strolling through the candy aisle, use this easily searchable list to check out the top three candies in each state.
