Naked mannequins help California homeowner carry out revenge on nosy neighbor, city
A California homeowner says he could hardly believe it when city officials notified him that he’d have to move or shorten his newly built fence, The Press Democrat reported.
Jason Windus had built the six-foot fence to provide more play room for his two large dogs, but Santa Rosa officials said it violated city codes by blocking sight lines at a nearby intersection, KPIX reported.
In order to comply, Windus had to lower part of the fence to 36 inches, not high enough to keep his dogs safe, KRON reported. He’d originally paid $9,000 for the fence six months ago, according to the TV station.
“They were going to fine me every day it wasn’t taken down,” Windus said, KGO reported. “I guess the average person would get angry and cop resentment? I throw a naked party in my yard.”
Windus, who runs a moving company, had originally collected several discarded, mostly anatomically correct mannequins because “they were so cool,” KTVU reported.
He used the mannequins to set up a nude garden party in his yard, clearly visible over the shortened fence, complete with a sign on an empty chair inviting the “nosey neighbor” whom he suspects reported his fence to the city to join in, The Press Democrat reported.
“You want me to cut my fence down?” Windus said, KPIX reported. “Now you get to see what’s behind the fence.”
In the city of Santa Rosa, “fences on corner lots are limited to three feet in height,” according to a statement from the city provided to KPIX.
Windus says he’s had “like 50 people stop, taking pictures, telling me how great it is” since setting up the display, KTVU reported.
Neighbor Rocco Giovanetti said he’s not bothered by the naked garden party, KRON reported.
“Come on, it’s freedom of speech. You know, freedom of you can do whatever you want with your house,” Giovanetti said, according to the station. “People just need to come together and just have a little laugh about it, you know what I mean? Just relax, it’s all in good fun.”
