Marine is lost at sea; Navy commander dies in Qatar

The U.S. Defense Department has reported these fatalities:

▪ Marine Cpl. Jordan L. Spears, 21, of Memphis, Ind., was lost at sea Oct. 1 while conducting flight operations in the North Arabian Gulf.

▪ Navy Cmdr. Christopher E. Kalafut, 49, of Oceanside, Calif., died Oct. 24, in Doha, Qatar, after an incident unrelated to combat at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
