“I am excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore the Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can,” Discovery CEO David Zaslav said during the company’s second-quarter earnings conference call,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“More details to come over the next few months, but we will bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories with this beloved piece of American TV history.”
Zaslav did not reveal the purchase price. The original asking price was nearly $2 million.
The Zillow listing for the home said the house “is reportedly the 2nd most photographed home in the United States after the White House.”
Photos of the interior posted on Zillow revealed that the home is purposefully and unabashedly stuck in the ‘70s, right down to the wood paneling and rock-faced fireplace in the family room. One bedroom wears bright, Pepto-pink wallpaper.
When the house went up for sale, early reports suggested that the property might attract buyers more interested in the land, which sits next to the L.A. River, than the house itself.
Carswell told the Times that the sale to Bass had not, in fact, been a done deal when the singer announced that it was on social media.
Bass cooled his jets when he heard that HGTV was the buyer.
“HGTV??! Aw man. I’d be pretty upset if it were anyone else, but how can you be mad at HGTV?? My television is stuck on that channel. Kudos HGTV, I know you will do the right thing with the house. That was always my biggest worry. I can smile again.”

His fans, though, apparently need more time. Some were still angry on his behalf and aimed their wrath at HGTV by using the “b” word - boycott - while others began suggesting a way HGTV can sweeten this real estate deal to everyone’s liking.
“Hey @hgtv can @LanceBass host the makeover show?! That would be awesome!”

I think if the people over at @hgtv would miss a huge opportunity if they didn’t join efforts with you and work on the house together. Lovely ratings for sure. #BradyHouse
