C-SPAN coming to KC to explore city’s literary life and historic past

C-SPAN is coming to Kansas City next week.

Mayor Sly James will welcome the cable network to town at 2 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

C-SPAN is coming to explore Kansas City’s history and non-fiction literary life as part of its current Cities Tour across the country, according to a statement released Friday.

The segments will air later this year during a special Kansas City weekend, Dec. 2 and 3.

Last month C-SPAN touched down in several cities, including Burlington, Vt., Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and Sioux Falls, S.D. The TV folks are typically welcomed to town with a symbolic hug from the mayor.

“The C-SPAN Cities Tour looks to turn the spotlight on cities, specifically small to midsize cities, that otherwise might not be highlighted on our national network,” tour producer Ashley Hill told KSFY in Sioux Falls.

The segments recorded next week in Kansas City will air in December on Book TV on C-SPAN2 (Spectrum channel 226) and American History TV on C-SPAN 3 (Spectrum channel 227).

While in Kansas City producers will visit various literary and historic sites in the area, interview local librarians, non-fiction authors and conduct educational and community outreach, the statement said.
