Grin and bear it: Heathrow Christmas commercial a dose of holiday cheer
Thank you, Heathrow Airport, for this warm, wonderful, magical dose of happy.
We needed it.
The London airport’s first-ever Christmas commercial stars two elderly teddy bears, Edward and Doris Bair, making their journey home to see loved ones for the holidays.
The 70-second story shows the lovable bears on the plane, going through immigration, hopping on an escalator and trying to grab their luggage from a moving carousel.
It took three days to shoot the commercial, while the airport was open. It’s part of a campaign marking the airport’s 70th birthday.
The commercial was created by Havas London and directed by Dom&Nic through Outsider Productions, with animation by The Mill, according to Adweek.
“Christmas is my favorite time of year at Heathrow. The airport is abuzz with families and friends reuniting for this special time of year,” Heathrow’s commercial director Jonathan Coen said in a press release.
“We love the film and hope the bears’ journey through the airport captures that excitement you feel when walking through Heathrow arrivals into the arms of your loved ones at Christmas.”
The film has definitely hit its mark — that sweet spot that makes you go “Awwwww.”
On the airport’s Facebook page it’s been viewed more than 5 million times and prompted more than 62,000 comments.
The tagline reads: “Coming Home: The Best Gift of All.”
And if that’s not enough to make you sigh, the little twist at the end will.
