Dutch Newman won her final campaign.
Kansas City Democrats re-elected Newman to her 5th Ward committeewoman seat Tuesday. Newman died July 27 at the age of 95.
It appears to be just the second time voters in Missouri have elected a deceased candidate. In 2000, voters chose Mel Carnahan for the U.S. Senate, despite his death in a plane crash just a few weeks before the election.
Newman, whose first name was Hila, helped scores of party candidates for more than 70 years. The Jackson County Democratic Committee will choose her replacement.
