Former Kansas Rep. Todd Tiahrt says “radical Islam” is to blame for Sunday’s shooting in Baton Rouge.

Tiahrt, a delegate to the Republican National Convention, said Monday the Kansas City shooter, Gavin Long, has ties to Islam. He rejected the idea that the shooter’s “sovereign citizen” ideology shares some elements with the right wing, and that there are extremists elements on the left and the right.

“Nope. I don’t think so,” he said. “We could talk about the Crusades as well, but what’s happening today — if you look the hot spots around the globe … everyone of them is in or adjacent to an Islamic country.”
