Missouri state auditor Tom Schweich plans a “major” political announcement on Thursday, and he’ll be making it in Kansas City.
Widely expected to run for governor in 2016, the Republican will appear at 12:45 p.m. at Wheeler Downtown Airport. The announcement doesn’t say it, but an educated guess would be that Schweich will be making similar announcements around the state as he flies from city to city.
A two-term state auditor, Schweich would challenge former House Speaker Catherine Hanaway for the GOP nomination in the August 2016 primary.
Both candidates have wealthy backers with long track records of giving to GOP caucuses. So the race would be expensive and surely contentious.

Other candidates may well get in the race, including St. Louis businessman John Brunner who ran for the U.S. Senate in 2012, but lost in the Republican primary to Todd Akin.
