Missouri certifies primary results, clinching wins for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton
Results of the Missouri primaries became official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton the winner of the Democratic contest and saying Donald Trump held on to his slim lead and beat Ted Cruz among Republicans.
Secretary of State Jason Kander certified the results Tuesday.
The Republican contest had been in doubt because enough overseas ballots remained to be counted since the March 15 vote that Trump was in danger of losing his edge.
But Trump ended up with 383,631 votes, squeaking past Cruz by 1,965 votes out of more than 939,000 cast. He beat Cruz by 0.21 percent.
State law allows a candidate to demand a re-count, at no cost to the campaign, after losing by less than half a percent. Cruz has not said whether he might call for a re-count.
Clinton’s win over Bernie Sanders also fell within that critical margin. She drew 312,285, just 1,574 more than Sanders, a margin of 0.25 percent. But Sanders has said he wouldn’t challenge the Missouri results.
