Former Missouri Sen. Kit Bond has endorsed Marco Rubio for president.
In a statement first given to St. Louis Public Radio, Bond said the Florida senator is the “strong conservative” the country needs. Bond was backing Jeb Bush, but Bush has ended his campaign.
“As a former governor and senator, I know about leadership, and I’ve come to see that Marco is a born leader who will steer our country in the right direction,” Bond said.
A two-term governor, Bond likened Rubio to GOP icon Ronald Reagan.
“Marco’s vision about the greatness of America and the possibilities of the American Dream fall right in line with what Reagan believed, and that’s what the United States needs now more than ever from our Commander-in-Chief,” Bond said.
The Missouri presidential primary is March 15.
