Sexual assaults in the military: down.
Reports of incidents: up.
“Exactly the combination we’re looking for,” said Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill as new legislation on military sexual assaults that she sponsored takes hold.
The U.S. military on Thursday is expected to issue a new report on the latest assault statistics. Those stats are expected to show the combination McCaskill outlined.
“Assuming news accounts are correct — reporting of assaults being up and incidents of assault being down are exactly the combination we’re looking for,” McCaskill said in a statement.
“I’m sure there’s more work to do, and I’m anxious to hear how victims feel about the services and support offered to them when they report an assault.”
