BuzzChatter Tuesday: Tax increase, tax cut, borrow more — it’s Show-Me State inconsistency

NBA owner Donald Sterling has politicos yapping:

• “That's all pretty stupid. There's no overarching thought.” — Missouri state Sen. John Lamping, a St. Louis County Republican who is a financial adviser in his private sector job, on the grab-bag of policy proposals lawmakers are pushing this year. (link courtesy of johncombest.com).

Lawmakers are looking to cut taxes by $620 million. They are considering a $720 million sales tax increase for highways. And they are looking at a plan to borrow $400 million for public buildings. Lamping thinks it all adds up to a jumble of nonsense. Senate Majority Leader Ron Richard, though, says there’s a string tying it all together — “job creation.”

• “Ignorant racist.” — Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill on Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling whose racist comments set off a national firestorm this weekend.

McCaskill made her comments on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” She added: “I can’t imagine how it must feel to be one of the African Americans playing on his team, how they must feel today, knowing that the owner of the team is obviously such an ignorant racist.”

• “He got set up by a very, very bad girlfriend, let’s face it.” — Donald Trump on Fox News of Sterling.

Trump pointed out that the girlfriend, identified only as V. Stiviano, is called the “girlfriend from hell.” He also said that as terrible as she is, she’s no match for Sterling.

• “We could live with either one.” — one top GOP-leaning Wall Street lawyer on which candidate Wall Street prefers in 2016: Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Jeb Bush.

Politico discovered that there’s unusual agreement among Wall Street insiders that they can live with Clinton if Jeb Bush decides not to run or Chris Christie fails to recover from Bridgegate.
