BuzzChatter Friday: Chelsea’s expecting!
The baby stork has struck again.
• “Marc and I are so thrilled to be expecting our first child in the fall!” — Chelsea Clinton announcing on Twitter that she’s pregnant.
This just proves that the Clintons are NOT all about politics all the time. The timing would have been better for her mother’s expected bid for the White House if Chelsea had held off until 2016. Hillary Clinton’s response via Twitter: “My most exciting title yet: Grandmother-To-Be!”• “I believe that it's a winner.” — House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on how the Affordable Care Act is playing politically for Democrats across the country.
Pelosi compared Obamacare to Social Security when it passed in the 1930s, saying, “Everybody has to spread the word as to what this is.” She said the key issue this year is job creation. Republicans, though, insisted Thursday that the law grows more unpopular by the day and said Pelosi herself can’t explain the law’s benefits. Also Thursday, the administration announced that enrollment under the ACA has reached 8 million Americans. Just for the record: Obamacare probably won’t help any Democrats in Mo-Kan this year. No way.• “The choice facing members of the Legislature has never been clearer: they can support Senate Bill 509 or they can support public schools, but they cannot do both.” — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon on Thursday repeating his concerns about a tax-cut bill that passed the General Assembly this week.
Nixon is hinting at a statewide barnstorming tour to defeat the legislation just as he did last year when he faced a similar situation. The governor says the cost of the cut is $620 million when the legislation is fully implemented, and that money will come out of public-school budgets. The decision to override the governor’s likely veto may well come down to a vote or two, which means more high drama in the state Capitol.• “I am looking forward to enjoying lots of cookies along the way – preferably oatmeal raisin and chocolate.” — former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole, whose office on Thursday announced another 16 Kansas cities he plans to visit in mid-May.
