Milton Wolf: The Gumby candidate for U.S. Senate

Kansas U.S. Senate candidate Milton Wolf increasingly is looking like Gumby as he twists and turns to find a way to poke at his rival, incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts.

This week’s ploy? Wolf allies have invited Roberts to a debate — not in Kansas — but

in northern Virginia.

Why? Because Roberts lives in Alexandria. That Roberts is not a resident of Kansas is one of Wolf’s chief arguments in his slow-to-ignite tea party campaign.

The debate’s sponsor is the Northern Virginia Tea Party.

From a Wolf news release Monday:

“With this invitation being flexible with Senator Roberts’ schedule, with transportation being provided, and with broadcasting of the debate being offered, what reason does Senator Roberts have not to accept?”

So far, Roberts, a three-term Republican, has declined debate invitations. Eventually, that will become an issue as Roberts will have to face his rival in a forum at least a time or two before the August primary. That’s the American way, right?

But Wolf looks more and more desperate as he searches for ways to attract attention and spark his insurgent campaign.
