Missouri candidate filing — by the numbers

The deadline for candidates to file for this year’s elections in Missouri came and went Tuesday, and here’s how it broke down by the numbers:

• 40: The number of state House seats where a Republican is running unopposed in the primary and general election.

• 14: The number of state House seats where a Democrat is running unopposed.

• 429: The number of candidates who filed for all state and federal races.

• 581: The number of candidates who filed in the last midterm election in 2010.

• 237: The number of Republican candidates this year.

• 163: The number of Democratic candidates.

• 1878: The last time Democrats failed to file a candidate for state auditor, according to the Missouri GOP.

• 4: The number of Democratic primary opponents that Congressman Emanuel Cleaver of Kansas City faces in August.

• 3: The number of Republican primary opponents that Congressman Sam Graves faces in August.

• 1: The number of GOP primary opponents that Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler faces in August.
