McConwell leaning toward run for JoCo Commission

It’s shaping up as the battle of the northeast Johnson County mayors for a seat on the county commission.

Mission Mayor Laura McConwell told The Buzz Friday that she’s taking a close look at the race for the seat being vacated by Ed Peterson, who is running for county chair against incumbent Ed Eilert.

“I’m exploring getting into this 1st District race,” she said.

If she runs, she’d face long-time Prairie Village Mayor Ron Shaffer who filed last fall for the seat.

McConwell, who’s served as Mission’s mayor for 12 years, said her experience upgrading Mission’s infrastructure is exactly the experience needed on the commission.

“I’ve got energy and would bring a different dimension,” she said.

The filing deadline is in June 2.
