Dennis Moore returns to Washington

Former six-term member of Congress Dennis Moore is scheduled to return to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, but he certainly would have preferred another reason for the trip.

Moore, 68, will be testifying about the Alzheimer’s disease he’s contracted and the impact it’s had on his family.

The Democrat, who represented Kansas’ 3rd District, will testify before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies. The panel’s ranking member is Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran, a Republican.

The hearing also will include testimony on the state of current research. The Alzheimer’s Association says the disease cost the nation $203 billion in 2013. More than 5 million Americans have it.

The hearing will be at 1 p.m. (central time) in the Dirksen Senate Office Building and
