Roberts seeks immediate use of law he opposed

Pat Roberts

of Kansas voted against the Farm Bill.

On Wednesday, he wrote the White House, insisting they implement it immediately.

Roberts was one of two dozen senators signing a letter to the administration, asking that it “expedite implementation” of the livestock disaster parts of the law.

“Due to the magnitude of … losses and the urgent need for financial assistance these losses have created, we strongly urge you to place implementation of 2014 Farm Bill livestock disaster programs as a top priority,” the letter says.

The disaster programs will allow livestock producers to collect money from taxpayers to cover losses.

President

Barack Obama

has said he’ll sign the measure.

Roberts wasn’t the only senator to ask for immediate implementation of a bill he opposed. Sen.

Jim InhofeJohn Borasso

of Wyoming, both Republicans, signed the letter. Both voted against the Farm Bill.
