Number-challenged Las Vegas partisan claims 14 — 14! — casinos in Kansas City area
takes a look at the Las Vegas effort
RepublicanNational Convention. As you may know Kansas City also wants the gathering.
But the NYT piece contains this amazing paragraph:
“Charles Spies, a Washington lawyer who works for Mr. Wynn, was more direct about the opposition, noting there are 14 casinos in the metropolitan Kansas City area.”Wait. What?
There are four licensed casinos in and around Kansas City, Mo., the Missouri
— Ameristar, Argosy, Harrah’s, and Isle of Capri.
And there are two licensed casinos in Kansas in the metro area — the Lucky 7, in downtown KCK, and the Hollywood Casino at the Speedway.
That’s six.
Is he counting St. Joe? The Native American casinos near Topeka? Boonville, Mo.?
Even if you count all of those operations, you
stillreallyneeds hotel space.
Perhaps the Las Vegas interests know something we don’t.
