Calling Pat Roberts a “conservative champion,” Mitt Romney said Tuesday he would come to Kansas Monday to campaign for the three-term senator.
“We need him in the Senate,” Romney said in a statement released by the Roberts camp. “This is about Republicans taking control of the Senate and stopping the Obama-Reid agenda that is destroying this country.”
Romney and Roberts will appear at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Prairie Fire, 5661 W. 135th St., in Overland Park.

Romney becomes only the latest national Republican political figure to stump for Roberts, who’s in a close race with independent Greg Orman. Also appearing on Roberts’ behalf in recent weeks were Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, John McCain of Arizona and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma.
