New poll shows Brownback leading Kansas governor’s race

Republican Kansas. Gov. Sam Brownback has catapulted to a six-point lead over Democratic challenger Paul Davis, a new poll shows.

A Fox News survey out late Wednesday showed Brownback leading Paul Davis 46 percent to 40 percent with 10 percent still undecided.

Libertarian Keen Umbehr was drawing 2 percent of the vote, according to the survey done Oct. 4 through Oct. 7.

The latest Fox poll was a remarkable turn of events for a governor who has trailed Davis in most polls so far leading up to the Nov. 4 election.

Fox polled the race last month and found Davis leading Brownback 45 percent to 41 percent. However, the race appears to have been tightening since then.

An NBC/Marist University poll out over the weekend showed the governor’s race to be in a dead heat with the election a month away. And a CNN poll released Wednesday showed the race tied at 49 percent each.

Brownback leads in the Fox News poll despite the fact that 43 percent of Kansans felt the governor’s tax plan was hurting the state’s economy while 36 percent thought it helped. Eighteen percent said they were unsure about the impact of the tax cuts. Four percent said it was too soon.

The Fox poll surveyed 702 likely voters by landline and cell phone. The poll was conducted using live interviews.
