A one-time aide to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon had an affair with then-House Speaker John Diehl, according to a Jefferson City police report.
Diehl, of course, resigned last month following disclosures of a sexting relationship with a Statehouse intern.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported Thursday evening that the Nixon aide was Brittany Burke, 31, who lobbied on the governor’s behalf.
The saga the newspaper tells includes heavy drinking, piggy-back rides, embarrassment, black-outs and even political espionage.

From the story, by the P-D’s Virginia Young:
“A source close to the governor’s office said Burke was transferred out of Nixon’s office in the spring of 2014 because of suspicions that she may have been leaking information to Diehl.”
Only in Jeff City, folks.
The Star reported last month that the 49-year-old Diehl exchanged a series of sexually charged texts with a 19-year-old college freshman while she was working in the General Assembly. A day later, Diehl announced he was resigning from the legislature.
