Vice President Mike Pence is planning to stop in Springfield on Monday to raise money for Josh Hawley as he campaigns to unseat incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Hawley, Missouri’s Republican attorney general, is locked in a tight race with McCaskill, a Democrat. McCaskill is running for her third term in a state President Donald Trump won by 18 points against an opponent who has the full-throated support of the administration.
Pence has been a supporter of Hawley’s candidacy from the beginning and urged him to run against McCaskill. At an appeareance in Kansas City this summer, Pence lit into McCaskill even as protestors gathered outside. And Trump urged support for Hawley and criticized McCaskill when he was in Kansas City this summer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars national convention.
A Fox News poll taken from Saturday through Tuesday deemed the Senate race a tie.
