President Donald Trump will not be in Missouri next week.

Rumors have been swirling among statehouse denizens for days that the president may make a cameo in the Show-Me State, perhaps even Monday when the state will be a prime viewing spot for the once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse.

The whispers turned into shouts Thursday morning after state Rep. Bruce Franks, a St. Louis Democrat, tweeted to Gov. Eric Greitens asking him to confirm the presidential visit.

“Is this true?” Franks tweeted. “If so see you Monday!”

Parker Briden, the governor’s press secretary, gave a direct answer when asked whether a Trump visit to Missouri next week was in the works.

“No.”
