Rep. Kevin Yoder has been elected as a regional representative on the House Republican Steering Committee, his office says.

The committee has nothing to do with transportation, of course. It’s the committee that hands out chairmanships to other Republicans for other committees. As such, the Steering Committee has a some clout.

Yoder was on the committee in the last Congress. But he was joined by Rep. Lynn Jenkins and Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas — only Rep. Mike Pompeo, the soon-to-be head of the C.I.A., was left off the list.

Jenkins has left the House GOP leadership, preparing for a possible statewide run in Kansas in 2018. And Huelskamp lost his 1st District seat, although there are reports he’s thinking about running for Pompeo’s old seat from Wichita.

That leaves Yoder as the only Kansan on the committee.

Rep. Jason Smith is the only Missouri congressman on the list.
