30 seconds of George Brett for Kevin Yoder
Kansas City’s most heralded third baseman has weighed in on the politics of Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District.
George Brett stars in a 30-second spot for Kevin Yoder, the conservative Republican who’s battling to keep his job against Democrat and political newcomer Jay Sidie. Some polls, and the aggressiveness of Yoder’s campaign in other commercials, suggest the race could be tight — perhaps because Republican nominee Donald Trump fares poorly among upscale Johnson County voters.
The Brett commercial is a straight-forward spot with the long-ago slugger shot against a leafy background talking directly to the camera.
“I’m proud of my friend and our congressman, Kevin Yoder, and you should be too,” the former Royal says. “Kevin is part of our community. He fights for us in Washington. He turns down his government health care and votes against increasing his pay. In baseball, when you have a good member on your team, you do everything you can to keep him. And that’s why I am still a Yoder voter.”
The player who wore blue during his playing career has shown his red-state politics before. In August, he posted pictures from his Twitter account of his pooch donning a Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” cap with the caption “only if dogs could vote.”
