Teachers have had a rough couple of years, from navigating remote learning to handling the ongoing pandemic and polarized politics in the classroom. Luckily, Teacher Appreciation Week is here, and businesses around Kansas City are offering great deals for teachers and other school staff.
This celebration runs from Monday, May 2 through Friday, May 6, with the official Teacher Appreciation Day falling on Tuesday, May 3. Here are some special offers to mark the occasion.
Red Door Grill: This local restaurant is giving away six $100 gift cards to teachers in KC area school districts. Nominate your favorite teacher for this prize on the restaurant’s website.
Fat Sully’s & Denver Biscuit Co: Teachers can buy one drink and get one free at these joint Westport restaurants from Tuesday, May 3 through Saturday, May 7.
Power & Light: Businesses in the Power & Light district are offering a variety of deals to teachers and other school staff all week, from 50% off pizza to a week of free yoga classes. Browse the full selection of special offers here.
Mission Taco Joint: This local chain is taking teacher nominations on Instagram on Tuesday, May 3 to win a catered lunch at the end of the month.
Lion’s Choice: This Missouri-based roast beef sandwich chain is offering a free “concrete” to all teachers who show an ID on Tuesday, May 3. Teachers must also show the coupon below to snag this blended frozen custard dessert:
Staples: This office supply chain is giving out free gift boxes of school supplies to teachers between Sunday, May 1 and Saturday, May 7. There are three locations in the Kansas City area: two in Overland Park and one in Platte Woods.
Freddy’s: This fast-food chain is offering a free mini sundae to educators who show a school ID between Monday, May 2 and Friday, May 6. No additional coupon is needed.
Barnes & Noble: Teachers can save 20% on books all year with their educator ID, but this chain is also offering a free small coffee or tea to teachers on Tuesday, May 3. There are five locations in the Kansas City area: in the Plaza, Zona Rosa, Blue Springs, Overland Park and Leawood.
Whataburger: This fast food chain is offering free breakfast items to teachers who show a school ID between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. on May 2 through May 6.
