These Kansas City area schools canceled class because of power outages from wind storm

Two of the largest school districts in the Kansas City metro have closed some buildings Thursday after an overnight wind storm knocked out power for thousands of people, including more than 21,600 in the metro area.

Two schools in the Kansas City Public School District canceled classes Thursday, a school spokeswoman said.

Parents have been notified that Garfield Elementary School on Prospect Avenue and JA Rogers Elementary School on 23rd Street are closed. All other KCPS schools remain open.

In Kansas City, Kansas, outages caused the district to relocate two buildings of students.

Morse Early Childhood Center on South Baltimore Street is asking parents to drop their children off at Argentine Middle School on Ruby Avenue at their normal class time. Teachers will meet them there.

Mark Twain Elementary School on Minnesotta Avenue, also in Kansas City, Kansas, moved classes to Wyandotte High School until the power is back on.
