Mental exam ordered for Overland Park homicide suspect

An Overland Park homicide suspect has been ordered to a state hospital to undergo a mental evaluation.

Edward William Scott Jr. will be sent to the Larned State Hospital to determine if he is competent to stand trial. District Judge Sara Welch made the order after Scott refused to cooperate with a local court-ordered examiner, according to court documents.

Scott, 22, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 51-year-old Chidozie “Joe” Ojiaka.

According to court documents, Ojiaka was killed late last year inside his home in the 7900 block of West 75th Street, but his body was not discovered until June.
