Independence police said Thursday that a man has been arrested in connection with a carjacking the day before at a QuikTrip gas station on 39th Street.

The carjacking was reported Wednesday morning after a man stole a woman’s minivan as she pumped air into the front tire of her vehicle at the convenience store on the 17000 block of East 39th Street. The woman was knocked to the ground and run over by the open car door as the man drove away.

The woman was attending to the passenger side tire of her van when the man approached her vehicle from the driver’s side. He got into the vehicle and started to drive away. The woman stood and grabbed at the passenger door, opening it as the man backed up. The man did not stop.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477), IPD tips at 816-325-7777 or email leads@indepmo.org.

Police said the person who was arrested would be identified after criminal charges are filed.
