Police have arrested two suspects in an Independence armed robbery early Thursday after police followed them into Lee’s Summit, and the suspects crashed when police tried to stop them.

Police received reports of an armed robbery about 1:10 a.m. near 23rd Street and Hub Drive.

The victim was able to give police a good description of the getaway vehicle and within minutes, police found it headed south on Missouri 291. While following the vehicle into Lee’s Summit, Independence police requested assistance from other law enforcement agencies.

When police tried to pull the vehicle over at Interstate 470 and Colbern Road, the driver failed to stop and attempted to flee, police say. Less than 15 seconds later, the driver lost control and left the road.

The suspects attempted to flee on foot, but police found and arrested them.
