Armed robbery spree reported in midtown KC

KRT

Kansas City police are investigating a slew of armed robberies over the weekend that may be related.

At least six street robberies on Friday and Saturday night in the midtown area appeared to have been committed by the same group of young men, police said.

Several victims were assaulted during the robberies, including one woman who was kicked in the face while lying face down on the ground.

That robbery was reported just before 11 p.m. Friday near 36th Street and Belleview Avenue. The woman and three others were walking down the street when three armed robbers accosted them. A fourth robber was driving a small, light-colored SUV.

The victims were robbed of their money and cellphones.

On Saturday night, five other armed street robberies were reported between 8 and 10 p.m.

In each case, several young men armed with guns approached people outside and robbed them.

Those robberies were reported at 42nd Street and Virginia Avenue; 46th and Jefferson streets; the 1100 block of West 46th Street; the 4500 block of Washington Street; and 42nd and Oak streets.

Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available.
