A 32-year-old man sustained a large head wound, multiple bumps and scrapes over his body when he was attacked early Tuesday inside a Kansas City, North, apartment.

Police were called to the 8100 block of Northwest Prairie View Road just after 2 a.m. There they found the victim, who told them he had been summoned by his girlfriend to an apartment in the 7500 block of Northwest Winter Road. The man said he was in the process of breaking up with the woman and she wanted to talk. She was outside when the man arrived.

The man, a Kansas City resident, went inside the apartment to use the restroom. He opened the door and saw blankets covering the floor.

Then a man carrying a baseball bat walked into the room and began hitting the victim. The victim said he did not know his attacker, who beat him on the head and body.

The attacker grabbed the victim’s backpack during the attack.

The victim said he managed to break free and run out of the apartment to a nearby lounge, where he called for help. He later told police that he thought his girlfriend had set up him.

No arrests have been made and the victim was listed in stable condition at a hospital.
