Jackson County prosecutors have charged a 41-year-old man in the July 5 fatal shooting of a man whose body was found in the 8200 block of Forest Avenue.

Jerome B. Walker Jr. of Kansas City faces second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges in the death of Alvino Crawford Jr., 29.

Officers were called to 82nd Street and Forest on a reported shooting. They found Crawford sprawled near the intersection. By the time paramedics responded, Crawford had died.

According to court records:

A witness told police that she and several others were with Crawford and Walker. They went to an apartment on Forest Avenue. At one point, Walker told them to leave. As they walked out, Walker pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, striking Crawford.

Walker later told investigators that he fired the shots as an attempt to scare a woman in the apartment.

Prosecutors requested that Walker’s bond be set at $250,000.
